Aging with dignity: the heart of Dämadi SweetHomes

Geriatric care in Mexico can, and should, be different. At Dämadi SweetHomes, we believe in a professional, humane-centered, and preventive model that moves beyond the idea of traditional nursing homes to focus on what truly matters: aging with dignity.

Mexico’s population is aging rapidly. According to data from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Geografía e Informática (INEGI), in 2023, 14.7% of the population was 60 years or older, and by 2030, this figure is estimated to rise to 20%.

This reality is exacerbated in a country where the culture of care is not fully developed and does not have a comprehensive strategy for the care of older adults.

In this context, Dämadi SweetHomes reaffirms our commitment to offering a warm, dignified, and truly human environment. Our retirement homes in Mexico City are spaces designed to care for, accompany, and promote the well-being of older adults, with an emphasis on respect and closeness to ensure aging with dignity.

What are the differences between a nursing home and a retirement home?

Traditionally, nursing homes are associated with impersonal spaces and hospital-like dynamics, often operating without protocols or trained staff, and lacking medical care and truly humane treatment.

On the other hand, retirement homes maintain a preventive approach and promote actions that prolong residents’ quality of life. Furthermore, their autonomy is respected: older adults retain their freedom.

Transforming lives, the mission of Dämadi SweetHomes

What sets us apart from a traditional nursing home is our humane model of geriatric care, as each resident is treated with a personalized approach, receives medical attention, and their habits and emotional needs are also part of the care plan.

True to our mission of promoting aging with dignity, at Dämadi SweetHomes, we don’t just focus on the care of older individuals, we also encourage community living, socialization, and participation in various physical and artistic activities. This allows us to build bonds and strengthen our community.

“It’s not just about keeping them stable watching TV all day; it’s about making them happy,” says Alejandra Solórzano, director and co-founder of Fundación DÄMADI.

Another key element of our model is shared responsibility. We encourage participation from both the family and our highly trained team. Together, we create a support network that combats loneliness and improves emotional health in this stage of life.
